BY MAAJID NAWAZ & DAWUD MASIEH
Islamism has become a prominent force in shaping the political identity of Muslims the world over and the international political party Hizb ut-Tahrir has become one of its foremost proponents. But what is Islamism? What is Hizb ut-Tahrir trying to achieve? Is there any validity to the constructs proposed by Islamists such as Hizb ut-Tahrir. Even when judged by their own parameters of thought?
These and other questions related to Islamism and Hizb ut-Tahrir in specific are explained in this day-long seminar filmed in Denmark in December 2007. This is a unique seminar which offers a deconstruction of the Islamist philosophy from within the legal parameters used by Hizb ut-Tahrir and others to construct their arguments. As such it is an invaluable resource for those wishing to critique, or develop a detailed understanding of, Islamist philosophy.
